Lucas has been awarded the Mining Services Contract at Mindarie Mineral Sand Mine and has successfully completed the civil infrastructure for the mine and mineral processing plant. This project sees Lucas TCS return to the region after previously working for Murray Zircon from 2013 – 2015. The mine produces heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) from the mineral sands which are natural beach sands containing economic quantities of heavy minerals including zircon, rutile and ilmenite. Multiple strandlines will be mined over the 5-year mining services contract duration.

Some of the scope for this contract includes the following:
  • Development and maintenance of all lay-down areas and haul roads, including dust suppression, drainage, waste and hydrocarbon management necessary for the provision of the services
  • Stripping, placement and return of topsoil and subsoil in accordance with the TS/SS mine plan
  • Removal, placement and return of overburden from the mining path averaging over 1Mbcm/month for the 60-month term of the contract
  • Total material movement (TS/SS plus overburden and return) peaks at 2Mbcm per month
  • Ore feed to the mobile mining unit (MMU) at over 750t/hr
  • Progressive rehabilitation of the mined strandlines
